8 Day SHIRA ROUTE CLIMBING KILIMANJARO

Embarking on the Shira route via the challenging Arrow Glacier offers a unique and rewarding Kilimanjaro climbing experience. This itinerary, commencing from Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), provides a day-by-day overview of your adventure.

Day 1: Arrival at KIA and Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by our team and transferred to your pre-booked hotel in Moshi or Arusha. This day allows you to acclimatize to the Tanzanian climate, relax, and prepare for the adventure ahead. A briefing will be conducted, covering essential information about the climb.

Day 2: Shira Gate to Shira 1 Camp

Your journey begins with a drive to the Shira Gate. After completing the necessary park formalities, your trek commences through lush montane forest. This initial stage provides a relatively gentle introduction to altitude gain, allowing your body to gradually adapt. You will hike to Shira 1 Camp, where you'll spend the night.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today, you will traverse the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude moorland with stunning views of Kilimanjaro. As you hike, the landscape transforms, offering a sense of the vastness of the mountain. The destination is Shira 2 Camp, where you'll settle in for the night, enjoying the panoramic scenery.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

This day involves trekking towards the Lava Tower, reaching an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters (15,100 feet). This acclimatization hike is crucial for preparing your body for higher altitudes. Afterwards, you descend to Barranco Camp, known for its stunning location beneath the imposing Barranco Wall.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today's challenge involves conquering the Barranco Wall. This is a non-technical climb that requires some scrambling but offers incredible views. After successfully navigating the wall, you'll descend into the Karanga Valley and ascend to Karanga Camp for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

This is a shorter hiking day, designed to allow you ample rest before the summit attempt. You will trek across the alpine desert to Barafu Camp, a rocky and exposed campsite. Here, you'll have an early dinner and prepare for the midnight summit ascent.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Summit (Uhuru Peak) to Millennium Camp

The highlight of your journey begins with a midnight start. You'll ascend towards Stella Point, a crater rim. From Stella Point, it's a final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Tanzanian landscape. After celebrating your achievement, you will descend to Millennium Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 8: Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure

After breakfast, you'll descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificates. Our team will transfer you back to your hotel for a celebratory shower and relaxation. Later, you will be transferred to KIA for your departure flight, filled with unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
