This 2-day safari is a short yet rewarding journey through two of Tanzania’s most scenic and wildlife-rich destinations. Ideal for travelers with limited time, this itinerary combines the lush landscapes of Lake Manyara National Park with the extraordinary wildlife concentration of Ngorongoro Crater.
You will experience diverse ecosystems within a short distance from groundwater forests and alkaline lakes to the dramatic volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro. The safari offers excellent opportunities to spot the Big Five, tree-climbing lions (seasonal), flamingos, hippos, and a wide variety of bird species.
• Scenic drive from Arusha to Manyara
• Morning and afternoon game drives
• Search for tree-climbing lions
• Flamingo and hippo viewing
• Transfer to Karatu for overnight
After early breakfast in Arusha, depart for Lake Manyara National Park (approximately 2–3 hours’ drive). The journey passes through the Maasai plains and small villages before reaching the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
Lake Manyara is a compact yet diverse park nestled at the base of the escarpment. Upon entering, your game drive begins through a lush groundwater forest where baboons and blue monkeys are commonly seen.
As you move toward the open plains and lakeshore, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, and large buffalo herds. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which are sometimes spotted resting on acacia branches. Along the alkaline lake, flamingos and other water birds gather in large numbers depending on the season.
After a picnic lunch inside the park, continue with an afternoon game drive before exiting and driving to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

After early breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most remarkable natural wonders.
The crater floor supports one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa. Within a relatively small area, you have excellent chances of spotting lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, and possibly the endangered black rhino. The open grasslands make wildlife viewing easy and rewarding.
Your guide will navigate different habitats within the crater, including Lerai Forest, open plains, and the hippo pool area. A picnic lunch will be served near a designated site inside the crater.
After lunch and final wildlife viewing, ascend the crater walls and return to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
